Why Not Default to Full Size View?

The standard convention for product pages is to show a smallish product image and give the shopper the option to click or mouse over for a larger view.

But we all know product images have a huge influence on conversion rates.  And that larger, more detailed, product images are always better than smaller product images.

Entertainmentearth.com defies convention.  Their product pages display products in the largest size possible (no need to click or mouse over for zoomed view).  Check it out–

  1. Good point about Entertainment Earth though I’m not keen on having to scroll down quite a bit to get to the item description. When I see a website like this I get the impression they expect the image alone will sell and the description for the product is merely an afterthought.

      Rishi: If they’re smart they would have tested larger product image format against conventional product page format to see which performs better for their product category.
